Albuquerque police shootout: Radio blocks bullet from hitting officer, suspect shot
Both officer and suspect taken to hospital
An Albuquerque police officer and another person were shot and taken to a local hospital on Sunday afternoon during an incident on Coors and Iliff NW.
The officer was not seriously injured after his radio stopped the bullet, APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said.
The other person is in critical condition, he said. It is unclear how many officers were involved and what started the shooting.
Nearby Speedway employee Shelly Granillo said there were about 10 shots fired.
Moments later, she said, a bunch of police cars came.
"It looked like GTA (Grand Theft Auto)," she said. "It was crazy."
Granillo said an officer later told her, "It was bad."
