Man arrested after drag racing inside Isleta Amphitheater parking lot
A man was arrested after trying to flee from a Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office deputy after a drag race inside the Isleta Amphitheater parking lot.
Percy Dabney, Jr., 19, of Albuquerque is charged with racing on highways, reckless driving and aggravated fleeing an officer. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
At about 6 p.m. Sunday, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of more than 100 vehicles drag racing inside the Isleta Amphitheater parking lot.
According to a criminal complaint filed at Metropolitan Court, when deputies arrived they saw a black Dodge Challenger — driven by a man later identified as Dabney Jr. — and another vehicle in the middle of a drag race.
The complaint states the deputy said that when they tried to pull Dabney Jr. over, Dabney Jr. did a U-turn "within feet of my patrol vehicle giving me a clear view of both the driver and passenger." The deputy said Dabney Jr. went west in the parking lot and began "bobbing and weaving" in between vehicles to avoid getting pulled over.
The deputy said he later saw Dabney's Challenger parked on the 4400 block of Central, near Atrisco. Due to a large number of vehicles trying to leave the parking lot, the deputy said they were able to stop and arrest him.
According to the complaint, Dabney told the deputy he did not know they were trying to pull him over and he "wasn't driving too fast" after he saw the deputy.
