OPINION: Speak Up!

STADIUM BOULEVARD was the most logically named street in Albuquerque. It was the freeway exit to University Stadium, the Pit and Isotopes Park. This current Cesar Chavez scandal should be a lesson on why we should not name things after people. Change it back to Stadium Boulevard. RS

DOLORES HUERTA is a victim of a sexual abuser. She should be recognized for her dedication toward civil rights, gender rights and the farmworkers' plight. We must all continue to see her good in making the US a more tolerant and humane country to live in. Viva Dolores Huerta! AS

Rather than go to the expense of replacing all the CESAR CHAVEZ signs, just paint over the first name and replace it with another famous New Mexican, Dennis Chavez, a US senator from 1935 to 1962 who was a major advocate for civil rights and New Deal programs. KMC

Please don't name what was once Stadium Boulevard after DOLORES HUERTA. Return it to the logical name. If you must honor a New Mexican Hispanic hero, let's go for Elfego Baca. He's been dead long enough we should have no nasty surprises, and he was a good lawman. MLSB

So CESAR CHAVEZ was yet another man with some power that allegedly was also a sexual predator and we’re taking his name off of everything. Meanwhile we have the same kind of man in the White House putting his name on every building he can. CC

Due to allegations of sexual abuse the country is posthumously stripping public areas named after CESAR CHAVEZ. Hopefully the same time and effort will be put into preventing public and government buildings from being named after a living person found liable for sexual battery, President Donald J. Trump. JMR

President Trump's response to the passing of ROBERT MUELLER was shameful and disgusting. Mueller was a patriot who served his country in Vietnam. It doesn't matter what Trump thinks about Mueller's politics because "serving your country" should be respected by all Americans. This is despicable, even for Trump. RF

Regarding “I'm a Republican suffering from 'TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” (March 22 Journal): George Sharpe's excellent column should be required reading for all Republicans. It explains why President Trump's methods to achieve his stated goals are increasingly troubling. His own morals are the only thing limiting his reach of power. He has no morals. Yikes! MY

Academics, politicians and unelected bureaucrats, would do well to read the works of FRÉDÉRIC BASTIAT (1801-1850), rather than Engels/Marx. Bastiat wrote, “Everyone wants to live at the expense of the state. They forget that the state wants to live at the expense of everyone.” Of course, that’s something to think about. HH

Memorial Medical Center, owned by private equity firm Apollo Global Management and operated by Tennessee-based LifePoint Health, is a good example of how the profit motive of HEALTH CARE COMPANIES supersedes health care delivery. Health care delivery has to be single-payer and government operated as in Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark. EN

The governor has now decided that ABORTIONS no longer must be counted. Could it be because the Democrats don’t want to be reminded of the number of babies they have killed with their legislation? If it isn’t reported then it didn’t happen, right? SI

In New Mexico, it is easy to punish financially MEGA CORPORATIONS for problems stemming from a lack of personal responsibility. The internet has produced a whole new world for young users, but it is more the responsibility of parents to guard them against the evil that exists out there. GH

The state of New Mexico is getting a financial windfall from the increase in OIL PRICES. Wouldn't it make sense for the state to pass some of that money on to the New Mexicans who are paying the price at the pump? JM

John Trever's political cartoon in Sunday's paper was distasteful and inappropriate. While correct that higher prices at the pump mean more tax revenue for the state, he fails to note that the reason is the WAR AGAINST IRAN. People die in war. I doubt state revenue employees are celebrating the war. AF

The SAVE AMERICA ACT’S real-world impact would be to hinder the ability of Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote, creating a two-track system for elections that would cause chaos and confusion. It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote. Senators: Defeat the bill! WS

The airport controllers/public need to have Congress get rid of ICE. They don’t do anything at the airports. In Minnesota they harass the public. Local officials can take care of whatever needs attention. By eliminating the dictator's army, we will be able to restore TSA salaries. TH

Regarding the TSA SHUTDOWN: Here's a thought. Rather than wasting everyone's time posturing in front of a microphone, let's get House and Senate leadership in a room. Lock the door, order pizza — and nobody leaves until we accomplish this thing called a compromise. SK

Kudos to the New Mexico CHUPACABRAS for their entertaining debut at Tingley Coliseum.  Despite losing a heartbreaker, the team made an excellent on-field showing. Fans were treated to fun activities during halftime and timeouts. Chupacabra players signed autographs for youngsters afterwards. New Mexico should rally around the Chupacabras! KC
