Meet the Journal's All-Metro Girls Basketball Team

Published

Here is the Journal’s All-Metro Girls Basketball Team for the 2025-26 season.

The list is headed by 5-foot-8 senior Jordyn Dyer of La Cueva, a future University of Pacific athlete. She scored 23 points a game, and also averaged 7.1 rebounds for the Bears last season.

Dyer, the only senior on the first team, is surrounded by incredible younger talent.

Madi Martinez, Rio Rancho’s often electrifying 5-4 sophomore, scored 21 a game last season for the Bears.

Freshman Abby Pavia of Albuquerque High, the youngest of our starting five, was brilliant for the Bulldogs, scoring 20.6 points a game, plus nearly eight rebounds. The 5-7 Pavia often carried AHS, which played in the Pit this season for the first time since 1993.

Kaiyah Benally of Sandia, a 5-7 sophomore, is an almost absurdly well-rounded player; she scored a good bit for the Matadors, but her rebounding, passing, defense and floor leadership elevated Sandia’s entire roster.

The last of our first-teamers is Albuquerque Academy 6-foot sophomore point guard Lily Skarsgard, who is asked to do so many things well for the Chargers, and did as Academy’s MVP in a season that saw the program reach the Class 4A semifinals.

Skarsgard’s Academy teammate, 6-6 junior Harper Dunn, is part of the Journal’s second team.

She is joined by Hope Christian’s superb junior forward, Bri Bishop, plus sophomore forward Kayla Finley of Los Lunas, senior forward Rebecca Neal of Highland (who averaged a double-double for the Hornets) and senior guard Jalysa Hines of Volcano Vista.
