Meet the Journal's All-Metro Boys Basketball Team
Here is the Journal’s All-Metro Boys Basketball Team for the 2025-26 season.
David Lunn of Volcano Vista, a 6-foot-4 junior guard who earlier this month led the Hawks to an unprecedented fifth consecutive Class 5A state championship, heads up our first team.
The frequently unguardable Lunn averaged 20.6 points for Volcano Vista; earlier this week, the University of Montana, which recruited and signed his former VV teammate, Kenyon Aguino, made an offer to Lunn.
His District 1-5A rival, Cleveland senior guard Remy Albrecht, joined Lunn on the first team after another stellar season in which he averaged 22.8 ppg for the Storm. He, maybe more than any other player in the 5A division, was as capable of scoring from multiple levels.
Although the first team is heavy on guards – there are four of them – there is size in 6-7 La Cueva senior Hunter Butler, who averaged 16 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Bears as they reached the state semifinals.
Nico Sanchez, a 6-foot senior from Highland, is on the first team. He averaged 20 points and 5 assists and helped guide the Hornets to the 4A championship two weeks ago.
Sophomore guard Isaiah Brown of Sandia rounds out the first team. Brown frequently had to carry the injured Matadors through the season, and was largely the reason Sandia advanced as deep into the postseason as they did.
The second team features two Rio Rancho stalwarts, senior power forwards Kayden Decker and Cayden Richardson, both invaluable to the Rams in their fantastic 2025-26 season.
The second team also features Del Norte’s terrific guard, Francois Satchivi, plus forward Brayden Giron of Hope Christian and junior guard Elijah Martinez of Cibola.
